(There’s no way this place is what it purports itself to be, which is why I’ll never enter it. I’ll simply drive by, pretending in my head that it’s exactly what it says it is.)

Well, well, well…NBA training camp is sneaking up on us all next week, and it looks like my beloved Coach Mike, in addition to a new point guard, has a new goatee.

You can see it in the picture there, in the impending link – that’d be the story wherein he’s probably explaining the lack of a new offensive system.

I mean, why would he put in an offensive system? It’s not like Mo Williams is the scoring point guard the team has needed for 4 years now.

In any case, the simple fact I don’t have to write about any of it actually has me looking forward to the season, which is nice. Opening week used to be my favorite week of the year.

I’d safely say I’m in on NBA League Pass again. Plus, they’re doing it broadband this year, which doesn’t mean much for me, but makes me want it. See what I said about falling for sales pitches?

I swear to god I went into a car dealership once and one of the first things I said was that I really wanted to buy a new car today bad, and I needed to know what they could do to put me in one.

I’m getting to Dallas something like Wednesday or Thursday of next week, and besides doing the thing I’m going there to do and shooting beer cans off of fences, the only other thing I want to make sure I tackle is going to a Mavs game.

Being that they play the Cavaliers November 3…I would like to go.

Why does that goatee look like its been magic markered on his face while he was sleeping?

I’ll never understand Ferry’s refusal to insist Brown at least bring an offensive guru onto his staff but I feel better about this Cavs team than any other in the LBJ era. I really like the depth at guard and if the early press about Hickson being a legit post scorer is true, well, that would be sweet. I, like you, will also be getting League Pass.

Let me ask you a question, Fios. When was the last time a college kid came into the league and was a legit scorer in the post at the power forward position? Then, answer me how many minutes Hickson is going to see when Varajao, Wallace, and Big Z are going to get most of the tick down low.

All of that being said, if the Cavs could run some sort of the offense they’d be the leading contenders to get the the Finals out of the East. LeBron is just that good.

Oh, don’t get me wrong, I don’t have any illusions about him doing anything of significance out of the gates, he’s apparently also a bit of a liability on the defensive end which will limit his minutes. I meant further down the road, though I will be curious to see what he can do in his limited action.

Addendum: it’s just that the Cavs have NO good options in the post at this point, LBJ won’t play down there, Z and Andy are too slow and Ben is Ben. It would be nice to have an option, even if it’s somewhat down the road. For this season, I’m far more excited about their guard play than anything else.

The best bet is to have LBJ posting up down there and letting him go to work.

I agree but — and I’d be happy for him to prove me wrong on this point — I get the impression LeBron has no interest in playing in the post. He doesn’t have much of a post game, he tends to rely on his strength and size to back down defenders but he doesn’t have much in the way of post moves. He utilizes the post occasionally to set up shooters on the team but I don’t think he sees himself as a post player.

They don’t necessarily have to start him at the PF position but if they run 5-10 set plays a half with him getting the ball on/close to the block they’d be much better off. Then they could let Wallace float around to get offensive boards, Big Z could set up for his little jumpers, Boobie/Wally could set up for 3′s and Mo could slash or spot up. As long as the other four players were moving around it could work.

The Bulls used to do this with MJ and the Lakers do this now with Kobe. Now, their turn around jumpers are their post up moves, whereas I don’t think LeBron’s is.

Maybe go back and look at some old film of Magic and how he used to deal in the post.

    Saw this today:

James will play some power forward this season when the Cavs play a smaller, quicker lineup. “I’m looking forward to it,” he said. “It will allow us to get up and down. I’m big enough and strong enough to cover some of the power forwards in this league.” He’s done it in the past with the Cavs and played the “4” spot in the Olympics.
