CALVIN STADIUMSSo since my surgery I haven’t been allowed to lift at all. Like, I’m not supposed to strain my face.

As such, I’m starting to get brain-slow and feel weak and soft and depressed. I can take walks, but there’s teen angst boiling up inside.

BOIL! BOIL! BOIL AND A BUBBLE! TROUBLE BUBBLE!!!

I’m allowed to hit the gym in a condensed and cautious manner a week from today – let’s hope I make it that long. And really, Calvin Stadiums is so very worthy of your attention on Facebook – this week, he’s chronicling his 2005 World Record Hot Air Balloon Ride.

I wasn’t nearly as close as it looked, but later we did get closer and I dropped the camera in the volcano to see what would happen. Since the camera melted, I could get a picture of that. Plus, a camera can’t take a picture of itself anyway. When we stopped for more fire for the balloon, I bought another camera.

Oh, also – I’ve made friends with this girl @RCAstyle on Twitter, and periodically ask her to do little artistic set-ups at her office for me. It’s pretty fun:

CHUCK D 2009
That one was “Write CHUCK D FOREVER on a piece of paper, and then put it on your desk next to an upside-down stapler.” The underlining was a bit of improv that I feel really improved the piece.

(Follow me on Twitter here. And follow the stupendous @alexiskn also!)

  • Hi.

  • A picture, at last!

    I don't know who Gil Thorp is. :/
  • TVBrain
    Gil's a high school coach in a daily comic strip that you have never read.

    Sometimes I wonder if I've outgrown this site. I don't feel apart of the target audience (twitter) anymore. I feel as though 25 percent of the topics are things I am interested in and the rest is "blah". I say this because I was pro-spaeth for the longest while now I feel indifferent. Nothing feels very organic, "follow me on twitter", "buy my book", etc. I don't say this to inspire negativity, I say this out of concern. I'm not in the demographic anymore. I'm a boat without oars and the tide continued to a point where I now find myself adrift. (Very boney-like, no?)
  • Boney is on twitter now, douche nozzle.

    Of course I need to be on twitter so I can see @mogotti2 call @CV31 a "rich ass twigger"

    mogotti2 = Mo Williams
    CV31 = Charlie Villenueva
  • Most of my eclectic fun is on Twitter.

    I really enjoy the instant interaction, and the longform stuff goes elsewhere these days.

    I don't know how asking people to take pics of upside-down staplers doesn't count as in your wheelhouse.

    But really, when was the last time I pushed my book on a regular basis?
  • I don't have any problem with the content (it's his head, he's allowed to loose whatever he wants here, and we're free to take it or leave it*), but aesthetically I don't feel like part of the target audience. I don't know what it was before, maybe it was pleasantly neutral, a sort of blank page where the words themselves stood out. Now it feels like a poster for an action movie I'd never pay to see. Which is probably the goal. I guess I'd just like window dressing and more focus on the content.

    *This should be read aloud while thinking of the M*A*S*H theme song, lyrics written by a young kid. Creepy.
  • Yes I thought you would miss the faux-pretentious minimalism.

    Twitter killed the old-style blog - it really did. It's not just me, either - it's happening to others and has been written about.

    As we go more and more mobile it'll continue to morph. Things like Posterous and Tumbler will thrive, although Google is really setting itself up to become the King of the Internet - social network and operating system all in one.

    Jokes!
  • I'm sorry, Brian, but I'm going to need a response from you on this:

  • Really bad PR move - I can't conceive of what he was thinking if true.

    If he'd gone the other way and promoted that it happened, he'd be an "aw shucks what a nice and fun humble guy" today.
  • Really bad is right. And did he not think either of the cameramen was going to tell everyone about this? Very short-sighted of everyone.

    Maybe you could hang out with my dog, who is on bedrest for a sprained ankle. Apparently, dogs have ankles now.
  • That's gross.
  • that was a fun post until you gave me a shoutout in the footer thingy, then it got AWESOME!! thanks Bri-Bri! you're the bestest!
