I like to check my WordPress stats first thing in the morning, since this is when the most random search terms are showing up.
By later in the day, the top searches have settled to the usual variations on “lebron james shirtless”, “brian spaeth shirtless”, and “lebron and brian shirtless together”. It’s boring.
The morning, though, that’s when you get gold like “how to react when falling off a motorcycle”.
Note that this wasn’t “how to react after falling off a motorcycle” – they actually want to know how they should be acting as they’re falling.
Do they just be cool, like this is an everyday thing? Should they scream, so that everyone can see their exciting, action-packed moment? Are there other options here?
I also like to think the person who searched this is the most skilled Googler ever, and actually searched it (via voice search) a split-second after they started to go down.
What a morning they’ve had compared to me – all I did was this:
drove halfway to gym before noticing I had no shoes on what is happened to me
— Brian Spaeth (@brianspaeth) June 28, 2012
After thinking about it, I realize this person was probably looking for info on how to land and/or roll their body safely, and this whole search wasn’t nearly as great as it could’ve been.
That said, somewhere out there is the person(s) concerned with how to behave after wrecking their bike. I’d like to meet that person, and take off my shirt for them.
Think how much search engine juice that would give me.
