I’ll be very honest and admit I saw Dark Knight four times in theaters – two regular; two IMAX.

I’m also buying the DVD Tuesday, and will probably watch that twice within a week.

Now that it’s officially coming back to theaters (for an Oscar push) in late January, I’m guessing I’ll snag two more IMAX viewings.

That’ll make 8 times I’ll have seen it in 8 months, which sounds like a lot. (The only other movie I’ve seen that many times in so short a time is my own.)

Do the math though, and that’s:

8 divided by 8 = 1

So like, while on one hand, it seems weird to say, “Yeah, I saw that movie 8 times,” on the other hand, if someone was like, “Hey, if you don’t watch this movie once a month for the next 8 months, I’ll punch you hard in the general area of your left cheekbone,” you’d be like, “no problem”.

Right? ‘Cause that doesn’t sound hard to do at all.

On the other hand again, you’re probably wondering why I wrote out “divided by” instead of using “/”.

The reason is simple – I went to public school, and during that public schooling I took what was known as “Algebra 2″ in 10th grade.

After that, I took it again in eleventh grade.

Finally, in 12th grade, I took “Algebra 2″ a third time. You’re probably thinking I was either dumb, or the school’s scheduling system was glitchy.

The truth is, I was home schooled for one day in 8th grade, and during math class, my dad told me the “rotten teachers” at public school would try to make me use “/” instead of the proper “fully written math”.

He told me never to do it any other way. Thus, I failed “Algebra 2″ three times, setting multiple records at my high school.

I also made them all made because I wouldn’t stop putting the quotes around “Algebra 2″. (If it’s not fully written out, it’s not real math, thus the quotes.)

The first time I saw ‘Fight Club’ I walked right into the theater across the hall that was airing the next showing and watched it again. I also blew off a Spanish class that I failed a few times. I never did manage to get a college degree.

    A couple of questions here:

    1. Do you have a Blu-Ray player? If so, move onto question 2 and 3.

    2. When you tell people you are purchasing a movie do you distinguish what format you are buying?

    3. Do you have a set criteria for what movies you buy in regular DVD format and in Blu-Ray format? If so, what is that criteria?

As an owner of a blu-ray player I’m trying to find out what is socially acceptable when engaging in discussions revolving around the purchasing of movies. If I tell someone I bought a blu-ray disc does it make me sound snobby? If I tell them I bought a regular DVD does it make me sound poor?

    Fios:

I did the same thing, more or less.

    Wish:

    1. No*, but I’m going to answer 2 and 3 as if I’d hypothetically said yes, because I’ve thought these through before, anyway.

    2. No. My rationale is that if they care, they’ll ask you. Then you say Blu-Ray in a matter-of-fact manner, as if that’s the only thing you’re even aware of.

    3. I’d go all Blu-Ray, especially if it was sitting at the checkout. I was ingrained with a mindset very early on that you buy the most expensive thing available, even if it’s not as good and you can’t afford it. (NOTE: Blu-Ray obviously is better and more expensive than regular DVD.)

I think I’ve told this story before, but you could show my mom two refrigerators, and tell her Fridge A is better in quality and less expensive, and Fridge B is still good, but priced higher for unknown reasons than A. She would still buy B every time, and also has admitted she knows this is an odd thing to do.

*I don’t have a Blu-Ray mainly because I think actual physical media is so close to extinction it’s a waste of sorts, and I know if I had one, I’d be combing every checkout line on Earth, compulsively buying Blu-Rays I would never watch. Men In Black II would be a classic example.

The Blazers have looked solid lately even without Greg or his tonsils performing particularly well. (but he’s a rebounding and blocking machine, and he dunks like the rim owes him money)

However, I think they’ll have a hard time beating the C’s unless they come out storming. The C’s have a tendency to push teams out of their comfort zones and young teams don’t play well in that situation.

Celtics. Blazers are playing great, but Boston is on another level and know people will have an eye on this game. I think it’ll be close though.

Aye. As a Portland native I want them to beat the Celtics tonight but I’m preparing myself mentally for the loss.

You guys think Brandon Roy’s gonna make the All Star team again this year?

Oh without fail he’ll make it – he’s the best player on a likable team that’s playing beyond expectations.

The NBA is a weird place right now, because you’ve got

    1) BOS/CLE/LAL – contenders

    2) ORL/POR – on-the-rise, scary, but not ready

2a) ATL/DEN – not really on-the-rise, but better than people thought they’d be and legitimately scary to play

    3) PHO/DAL/DET – technically have good records, but seen as on the decline and/or in need of a rebuild

    4) Bunch of average teams (PHI/TOR/MIA) or teams trying to tread water until 2010 (NYK, etal)

    5) Sucky teams that will probably remain so for awhile (CHA/LAC/MIN/OKC, et al)

(The Hornets and Spurs I can’t classify at this time.)

I guess what I’m saying is that I think the teams that are legitimately contending or seen as on-the-rise will be rewarded with an unbalanced number of All-Stars.

Not that Roy isn’t legit – he is. I just think we could see a Z or Mo Williams get in when their stats probably say otherwise, because nobody is going to reward a DET Laser when Joe Dumars is looking at 2010 instead of this year. (Which I applaud him for – you know how I felt about the Billups/Wallace/etc Lasers.)

I wholeheartedly agree on the Mo Williams front, that guy’s playing his face off. Not necessarily gaudy numbers but look at what his addition has done for the Cavs.

As far as being unable to classify the Hornets/Spurs…I think the Spurs will start to roll as the season goes on and Parker/Ginobili get back in form, but the Hornets have me stumped. Their timing is off and it’s almost like they got content after last season’s success.

My Algebra 2 teacher was a born-again Christian who talked about Jesus in public school like they were old pals.

I passed the class only so that I’d never have to have that freak for another year. On an unrelated note, my Algebra 1 teacher was a drunk who often put his head on his desk halfway through class and slept.

He was still a better teacher than Jesus’ friend.
