I wasn’t going to write anything today, but then I saw the Celtics lost again lasterday, and I got all writerly.

I’m not an advanced enough math scholar to figure it out, but with CLE now equal in the loss column, the teams could be tied up record-wise when January 9 rolls around.

Check out this comment on Celticsblog.

yep. exactly. if we end up nose diving and ending up going down in round 1 or 2 no one should be shocked

kg can’t take over. pp is up for it but is only one man. ray’s rain man routine is a problematic in streaks(ask the bucks and sonics)and we have NO GROWN UP MAN ON THE BENCH.

not looking good.please danny come through

Man, a couple losses back-to-back on the Western trip and the sky is falling, huh?

Relax, BOS – they probably just borrowed LeBron’s DVD collection, and spent all day watching the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

Really what I want to talk about is Twitter, though. It completely baffles me, as you’ll note if you’ve looked at my Twitter feed.

By my determination, there are several possible uses for Twitter. I’ve noted whether this is something I want or need in my life.

1) To let everyone who follows you know what you’re doing on a regular basis throughout the day.

I don’t want this at all.

2) To note what other people are doing on a regular basis throughout their day.

Don’t take it personally, but unless you’re Superman or my girlfriend or something, I don’t really need to know. It seems like a massive waste of time.

3) To pseudo-spam links to your blog/website/endeavors.

This is something that’ll come in handy, but it feels kinda dirty or wrong or cheap.

4) To just say funny things and entertain.

I can do this, but I don’t really want to. If I have something really good, it goes in the file to use in a script, or gets put on here.

Sure, I have lots of little throw-away observations and things throughout the day, but so does everyone, and most of them are because of where I am and what I’m seeing. I think that gets lost in the transition to Twitter.

I also don’t want to feel the need to have to update the thing. If I do something, I like to do it all-out and do it right.

This is why WSM? took forever, it’s why YAYsports! fell apart, and it’s why I explicitly stated upon starting this blog, that I’d only write something when I felt like it. Sure, that happens to be every day usually, but you get my point.

5) To have important conversations with other people in public.

I don’t want this.

So, looking over the list, the only reason I could want to be on Twitter is to spam my stuff, which I don’t feel right about.

Maybe I’m missing something – can I get a rundown/analysis from Twitter users?

My purpose for getting on there was networking. I eschewed Twitter for a long time, until I read an article in PC World (yes, I have a subscription)about using Twitter for networking a small business.

There’s an art to being a “business” on Twitter. It’s OK to promote your stuff, but you have to participate in the stream too. I did searches on Twellow.com for filmmakers, because that’s who I really wanted to follow. You have to ask about other people’s projects in order for them to care about yours, so there’s a lot of leg work involved, the part that you like least.

I’ve been on Twitter since Oct 23rd. I’ve gotten 3 potential gigs out of it so far, and I twittered from the 11:11 casting session as a “fly on the wall.” The director wants me to twitter from the set during production in Feb and Mar, since I’ll already be there getting ideas for the score, and his hope is that followers will ask questions about the production and actors and get responses from me.

It’s a lot of work, you don’t have to update all the time, but if you want people to care you need to update regularly, and your humor is definitely a way to pull people in.

    OK, there’s my 2 cents.

Kids use it as a mobile chat room. For example, if six of you want to go see Marley and Me, and you’re in six different places, Twitter will help you coordinate. For a film as rich and complex as Marley and Me, Twitter is a vital tool.

The Cavs wins tonight and against the Wizards have all the hallmarks of the Cavs of the past few years: playing down to the competition, stagnant offense, lazy defense, LeBron does all the scoring (except against the Wizards, he decided to take the night off and I hate that) and plays 40 plus minutes. Here’s hoping this is a temporary slump because that formula will fail, again. I know it’s crazy to complain about a team that’s 26-4 but the Cleveland fan in me worries that the other shoe might be dropping. And they’ve only played 4 games in 8 days so these can’t be attributed to fatigue. Their schedule mid-January through mid-February is pretty tough, that record will fall apart fast if the last two games become habitual “efforts.”

Re Twitterberry, the only huge problem I have is the “known issue” that your friends’ stream doesn’t load. To me, this would be something that would cause someone to not go ahead with the beta, but what do I know…
