Sorry, but I’ll be back Wednesday.

I’m having a creative outburst that must run its course. This has only happened twice before, and each time it turned into things that I still consider the best things I’ve ever written.

The Twilight sequels are greenlit, because the thing made a ton of money this weekend. (No, I didn’t see it.)

The best is how the production company sent an email to fansites, and tried to make it like it was a personal thank you note from the two stars. Here is one response to said email.

#

What a class act Kristen and Rob are. That was a very heartfelt thank you. Congratulations to Summit for taking a chance on this project and keeping the spirit of the book. The fans of the series gave you a big reward for that this weekend. I look forward to the sequels and hope that they don’t take forever to make it to the big screen like the Harry Potter films. Everyone involved in the making of Twilight did a wonderful job!! THANK YOU, THANK YOU. (BTW it is NOT only teen girls that are attracted to this story.)

Comment by A Twilight mom — November 22, 2008 @ 3:42 pm

Now, that says “A Twilight mom”, which means that’s a full grown woman who thinks Rob Pattinson and Kristin Stewart were sitting around together somewhere Sunday, and said, “Hey, let’s write up a little note and send it to our fans. And let’s write it like a pr agent would, so it’s sounds fake.”

If you haven’t gathered, I’m a fan of Ayn Rand, and yeah, I read a lot of Objectivist sites. Here’s what they think about the auto mess, and I agree completely. Read it a few times before you call me a maniac.

Finally, I know she’s a fake Converse ad and I’m way behind on this, but this is really my ideal woman in every way. I’d like to meet the actress and then marry her, and I’ll be sad if she’s not really a pain in the butt.

Please leave thy comments – I’m on the computer, and will be checking in.

I’m getting reinvigorated on this LBJ leaving Cleveland thing after reading a Sam Smith column…..if ‘everyone’ knows that LeBron is leaving, why don’t the Cavs just trade him after this season, if they don’t win a championship, to the Blazers and get Roy, Aldridge, Webster, S. Rodriguez, Frye and a draft pick out of it? Then….when LeBron is a free agent the Cavs can be like, “come sign here for cheap to win championships…” This would be a karma like response to the Boozer debacle.

To lose him to the Knicks for nothing would kill the Cleveland franchise.

That would require a NBA General Manager to have balls. Meaning it will never EVER happen.

I find some tenants of libertarianism to be attractive but I ultimately see it as a philosophy that is hamstrung by the same naive faith in humanity that cripples communism. I also can’t put much stock in an analysis that ignores the cost of health care and suggests allowing automakers to produce the very cars that got them into this mess is part of the solution. Automakers are not failing because they are mandated to produce certain kinds of cars, they are failing because they made too many of the wrong kinds of car. I’m not certain how I feel about bailing them out, I think an argument can be made against it, I just don’t see this one as particularly strong.
    Also, Jennifer is hot.

Brian, I could have done without seeing Jennifer today. I had nearly forgotten how irritated I am by that character. I mean, seriously, her site starts with a heart animation? What is she, 27 going on 15?

I’m completely illogical about the auto company bailouts, because I know too many people who work for them. I’m just going to sit out that debate.

Both, actually. Her books are well written, but they don’t do anything daring and no one will ever call her a brilliant stylist. But philosophically I disagree with the notion that we can ever objectively learn anything – our own consciousness precludes this prima faci. And how on earth do you account for children, the elderly, the poor who got their via the exploits of the capitalist enterprises, those living under totalitarian regimes, etc etc? Unfettered capitalism would bring us back to something akin to the feudal system. I’m all in favor of complete individual freedom, but you can’t deny that we’ve gotten to this point in the history of civilization largely because of social mechanisms; we individually do better when we’re all healthy, educated, and free.

Even the way she spits out her toothpaste is out of my league!!!

BTW, the Ayn Rand site you link to is wrong

“CAFE fuel economy laws…forcing them to sell millions of small cars that have no chance of profitability given consumer preferences.”

Small cars are actually the best selling cars and it’s the large, inefficient vehicles (Hummers, Escalades) which sell poorly because of energy prices.

“U.S. sales results released Tuesday showed cars outselling gas-guzzling trucks and SUVs by almost 200,000 in May [2008] — the biggest margin since 1996. That was bad news for U.S. automakers, whose lineups are heavily skewed toward large, inefficient vehicles, but a boon to their car-focused Asian rivals.” (LA Times June 4, 2008)

Is it even possible to be more wrong than the site you linked to? You should read your hometown newspaper more often.

I can lay out all the reasons why a $25 billion bailout is actually much cheaper than allowing them to go bankrupt, if you want.

I’m actually okay with what the government is doing right now in terms of making them at least show them a viable plan of what they’ll do with the money.

Initially it seemed like they’d just let them stop the bleeding, and then they’d be back in March asking for more money.

I’m in complete agreement with you there, simply handing them a check would have been the worst possible “solution.”
